See your landed cost before you wire a deposit.
Product cost, freight, insurance, duty and import tax add up to what you actually pay. You supply the rates your broker confirms — we keep the math transparent.
How landed cost adds up.
This is the whole formula. Compare suppliers on this number, not on the unit price.
- Goods = unit price × quantity
- Customs value = goods + freight + insurance (CIF) · or goods only (FOB)
- Duty = customs value × duty rate
- Import tax = (customs value + duty) × VAT / GST rate
- Landed cost = goods + freight + insurance + duty + import tax + fees
We never guess your duty rate.
- The HS code sets the rate. Look up the heading in our HS directory, then confirm the full 8–10 digit code with your broker.
- Trade agreements, anti-dumping measures and additional tariffs can change the rate for goods of Chinese origin.
- Every figure here is an estimate. Confirm classification, duty and tax before you commit.
| Destination | Standard import VAT / GST | Customs basis |
|---|---|---|
| EU (e.g. DE · FR · ES) | 19–23% | CIF |
| United Kingdom | 20% | CIF |
| United States | No federal VAT | FOB |
| Australia | 10% GST | FOB |
| UAE | 5% | CIF |
Standard rates for reference; reduced rates and exemptions apply to some goods.
About import duty
What is landed cost?
The all-in cost of getting goods to your door: the product price plus freight, insurance, import duty, any import tax (VAT/GST) and handling or broker fees. It is the number that decides your real margin — not the unit price a supplier quotes.
Why does the calculator not tell me the duty rate?
Because the rate depends on the exact HS classification of your product and any trade agreements or remedies between the two countries — and getting that wrong is expensive. We compute the total from a rate you or your broker confirm. Not sure of your code? Describe the product and we will suggest likely headings.
What is the duty charged on — CIF or FOB?
Most countries, including the EU and UK, charge duty on a CIF value (goods + insurance + freight). The United States, Canada and Australia use an FOB or transaction value. Import tax is then usually charged on customs value plus duty. Switch the basis above to match your destination.
Is import VAT a real cost?
It is cash you pay at the border. VAT-registered businesses can often reclaim it, so it affects cash flow more than margin — but it still needs to be funded when the goods land.
